Stand With Marg for a Better Victoria

Experienced, professional, dedicated to serving Victoria.

Marg Gardiner, Victoria City Councillor

Meet Marg Gardiner

Experienced, principled, and committed to the Victoria community she has called home for over 23 years. She is your City Councillor.

Marg holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) and an MBA in Public Administration. She served on the James Bay Neighbourhood Association Board for 16 years, working on public safety, housing, transportation, parks, and air quality before bringing those same priorities to City Council.

As a Councillor, Marg has worked tirelessly to get people off the streets and into care, opposed the Province's decriminalization experiment, and worked to shift City policies to encourage the Province towards providing therapeutic support for those who have succumbed to drug addiction.

Marg's background in science, business and regulatory enforcement, along with her years of experience as a community advocate, make her an ideal City Councillor.

“My votes are based on facts and consultation, not ideology.”

— Marg Gardiner

When our community was dealing with real issues, Marg showed up. She walked the neighbourhood, met directly with impacted businesses, and did it more than once. She's been transparent, accountable, and honest throughout — that kind of effort goes above and beyond, and it matters.

A Record of Principled Votes

Over 3.5 years on City Council, Marg has cast hundreds of votes on public safety, housing, fiscal responsibility, and open governance — and she stands behind every one of them.

Issue Marg's Position
Police Funding Voted FOR police budget every year. Opposed all defund motions.
Drug Consumption Sites Proposed to request closure of The Harbour consumption site on Pandora. (Motion failed)
School Safety Supported the re-introduction of the Police School Liaison Officer program.
Housing Densification Opposed Missing Middle Housing policy. Believes current OCP-2050 density targets exceed what Victoria needs and destabilise neighbourhoods.
Delegation Bylaw Only Councillor to vote against — removes public and Council oversight from key decisions.
Councillor Salary Increases Declined her own salary increase. Voted against generous increases for Councillors and Mayor.
Mayor’s Community Safety Plan Voted against — opposed creation of new city shelters and implicit support for illicit drugs.
Fire Safety / Single Egress Rule Challenged Province's Single Egress Stairwell building requirement through motion to assess City's capacity.
Urban Forest Plan Successfully had tree canopy targets included in the Official Community Plan.

Community Members Who Stand With Marg

I've known Marg for 15 years, working with her on projects. As a Councillor, she delves into issues and provides a thoughtful community voice to Council.

Shellie Gudgeon Former Victoria Councillor

I've never known a Councillor who works harder than Marg, nor one who has been as forthcoming with information . . . I am grateful for both.

Patricia Kidd Rockland Resident

Marg listens and then acts and votes for what she thinks is right . . . I find her an important voice of considered reason at a time when common sense seems sorely lacking.
